Class System in Pompeii - Ranks, Classes
There are 3 classes in Pompeii: Freeborn, Freedmen and Slaves. Freeborn men and women were high class residents of Pompeii. Freeborns lived by satisfying and impressing the rest of the city. They were allowed to put statues of themselves around the city. Freed people were former slaves. In order to be freed, they must buy it or be granted freedom. Slaves were from debtors and prisoners from war. They were normally women or children
